Hiro Ramen in Macau: A starred lunch at an affordable price

Welcome to a new article on thegametv.org! Today I want to talk to you about Hiro Ramen, one of the best restaurants in the world for Japanese ramen (and, having visited Japan last year, I can confirm).

Arrival in Macau

I arrived in Macau, China, on December 31, 2023 to study at the University of Macau. Although I arrived in the evening and could still celebrate the New Year by visiting one of the most iconic places in the city, I was exhausted and decided to rest immediately. I flew with China Eastern Airlines and the flight, including a layover, lasted more than 13 hours: I was exhausted!

Lunch at Hiro Ramen

On January 1, 2024, however, I somehow had to make up for the New Year’s celebrations, so I decided to try the “Set lunch menu” at Hiro Ramen.

The Restaurant

The restaurant is located inside the Venetian Macau, a luxury hotel that houses one of the largest casinos in the city. Naturally I don’t have a room in this hotel (apart from the cost, which for one night is not the end of the world, my trip is not a vacation), so, thanks to the public transportation that connects the entire city, I headed straight for the Venetian Macau (VM).

In this article I can’t tell you about the VM, also because everything that is inside it falls outside the topics that I want to bring to this blog, it is enough to know that it is a really luxurious place and where, unfortunately, it is extremely easy to lose (a lot) of money.

The Search for Hiro Ramen

The funniest thing was when I had to find this “Hiro Ramen” inside the building (which is really immense). In fact, since the restaurant is located inside the gambling area, I had to pass security checks. The guard, after taking my passport, says: “21 years old! Well, you just have the age to enter” (for your information, 21 years old is the minimum age to enter these game areas in Macau). I felt like laughing because I immediately thought: “There is never an age limit for eating”! Thought but not said.

I found Hiro Ramen only with the help of one of the security guards who kindly showed me the way.

The Dining Experience

There were many tables and then a counter where you can eat and watch the chef cook. I chose the counter because it reminded me a lot of the trip to Japan (if you haven’t done it yet, read my book: “Between Samurai and Manga: An Epic Journey in the Japanese World“).

Professional and kind welcome. They accompany you to your seat, help you sit down, if they see that you are Western they bring you cutlery (in addition to chopsticks), the service is quick and there is never any waiting between one course and the next.

The Food

I highly recommend adding this restaurant to your “gastronomic tour” if you pass through Macau. The lunch menu set, in fact, cost me only 200 MOP + 10% for the service, for a total of 220 MOP. About 25 euros. Included in the price: ramen, dessert and drink. You can choose the ramen for yourself from 3 different types (now it is useless to list them because they may change); also for the dessert and the drink you have a choice between two proposals.

Needless to say, it was all delicious! The meal was worth much more than 25 euros (not counting the experience, the welcoming environment, the professional service, etc.). For a Westerner, 25 euros for a ramen may seem like a little, but keep in mind that in Japan a ramen costs you on average 5 euros. In Macau we are on the same price. So for 25 euros, one should expect something really good.

The restaurant also accepted Mastercard and with the “Mastercard World Elite” (which I talked about on my YouTube channel) I was able to avoid expenses on the EURO – MOP exchange.

Conclusion

The article ends here, I just wanted to let you know about this experience and recommend “Hiro Ramen”, a welcoming place where you really eat well! A destination that you must absolutely consider if you are in the area.

The good thing about Macau is that it is relatively small. In an hour by bus, maximum, you can reach any place.
